Sculpture Shoemaker (San Crispino)

The sculpture to the shoemaker San Crispino was installed in 2011 at the initiative of the Vitebsk shoemaking company "Marko". The monument, cast in bronze abroad, depicts not a nameless shoemaker, but St. Crispino, a famous shoemaker from Rome more than 1500 years ago. He and his brother Crispino made shoes in France and preached Christianity. During the persecution of Christians, the brothers were brutally massacred by being boiled in molten tin. The Catholic Church then consecrated Crispino and Crispian as saints. In the modern world they became the patrons of all tanners and shoemakers. There is a legend among the residents of Vitebsk that you have to touch San Crispino to get a smile on your face.
